Thomas “Tom” Enwright

MARQUETTE, MI. – Thomas “Tom” Enwright, 92, lifelong resident of Marquette, died Thursday morning, November 9, 2017 in the presence of his loving family and under the care of U.P. Home Health and Hospice at Brookridge Heights Memory Care where he was a patient for less than a day.

Tom was born on September 26, 1925 in Marquette, one of five children born to the late Clifford and Loretta (Haley) Enwright. He was a 1943 graduate of Bishop Baraga High School and was drafted into the U.S. Army in December of that same year.

Tom saw action during World War II in the European Theatre. He was honorably discharged in 1946 as a Tech Sergeant. Returning to Marquette, he married the former Marjorie Quinn on August 9, 1947 at St. Michael Catholic Church where they were members for many years.

Tom was employed in numerous capacities, the majority of that time with the City of Marquette as a former Zamboni driver at the Palestra and with the Parks and Recreation Department, retiring in 1991.

In his free time, Tom enjoyed working in his wood shop, Search-a-Word, watching Wheel of Fortune and spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include two daughters, Lynn (Richard) Jason of Rochester, MN and Sue (Daryl) Longtine of Marquette; four grandchildren, Lisa (Kyle) Button, Jennifer (Wyatt) Miller, Amy (Chris) Schwemin, and Ryan Longtine; seven great grandchildren, Kendra and Jocelyn Schwemin, Zachary and Jacob Button, Owen and Ethan Miller, and Logyn Longtine; siblings, George (Sue) Enwright, Miriam Sackett and Glenn James (Carole) Enwright; also several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death besides his parents was his wife, Marjorie on December 9, 2015; an infant daughter, Constance Enwright and a brother, John “Jack” Enwright.

The Enwright family will greet relatives and friends on Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Canale-Tonella Funeral Home where a parish prayer service will be recited at 4:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, November 13th at 11 a.m. in St. Michael Catholic Church with the Rev. Gregory Heikkala officiating. Burial will take place in the Holy Cross Cemetery. A luncheon will be served in the Zyrd Parish Center immediately following the Mass.

Pallbearers will be Ryan Longtine, Chris Schwemin, Kyle Button and Wyatt Miller.
