Theresa ‘Tresa’ H. Stanchina

CASPIAN, MI – Theresa “Tresa” H. Stanchina, age 96, of Caspian, MI, passed away Friday, November 3, 2017 at the Iron County Medical Care Facility in Crystal Falls, MI.

She was born January 19, 1921 in Caspian, MI, the daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret (Paroglio) Banche. She attended the Stambaugh Schools, graduating from Stambaugh High School in 1938. She then attended the University of Michigan for her Bachelor’s Degree, and later earned her Master’s Degree at Northern Michigan University. She was employed as a teacher at the Stambaugh Schools for K through 8th grade, retiring in 1981.

Theresa married Joseph “Toots” Stanchina on August 11, 1973 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Caspian, and the couple made their home in Caspian.

They celebrated their 37th wedding anniversary in 2010. He preceded her in death on November 10, 2010.

She was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Caspian and St. Ann’s Society and was the organist for many years. After retirement, Theresa and Toots wintered in Florida and Texas.

Theresa is survived by her stepson, Jeffery Stanchina of Los Angeles, CA; stepdaughter, F. Jo Stanchina of Flint, MI; son-in-law, Dan Chiconsky of Marquette, MI; two step grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Theresa was preceded in death by her stepdaughter, Melanie Chiconsky; brother, Albert Banche; sisters, Anne Meyers, Jenn Ward, Eleanor Reitmeyer, and Elizabeth Roberts.

Visitation will be held Thursday, November 9, 2017 from 9:30 to 10:30 am at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. Funeral services follow at 11am at St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Caspian, with Rev. Jeffery Kurtz to offer the Mass of Christian Burial. The Ladies of St. Ann’s Society will form an honor guard at the service.

Interment will be in Stambaugh Cemetery.
