Linda M. Lobeck
KINGSFORD, MI – Linda M. Lobeck, 57, of Kingsford, died Wed. Nov. 8, 2017 at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.
She was born on Sept. 21, 1960, the daughter of the late Norman and Joan (Billings) Marmilick. Linda graduated from Gladstone High School in 1978. During high school she was involved in Forensics, chorus, and National Honor Society. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Mass Communications from Northern Michigan University, where she also competed in Forensics.
Linda knew as a teenager that she wanted to be a reporter. Her newspaper career began as the editor of her high school paper, the Purple Pride. She also belonged to the National Quill and Scroll Society, a national club for high school journalists. While in college, she worked for NMU’s student paper, the North Wind. Linda began her career at the Iron Mountain Daily News as a reporter in April 1984. Throughout her tenure with the paper, she covered countless school board and city council meetings, in addition to many other events. She won several awards for her articles, which were featured in other publications.
Linda married Patrick Lobeck on April 19, 1986 at All Saints Catholic Church in Gladstone.
Linda served as school board president at Dickinson Area Catholic School. She was a member of St. Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church, where she was a lector and served on the parish council.
Family was very important to Linda. She was very involved in her children’s lives. She enjoyed attending their many activities, including a family trip to Hilton Head to watch Ryan play tennis for St. Norbert College. The light of her life was her granddaughter Madelyn. She enjoyed going on girl’s weekends with her mother and sisters. In 2012, she went with her sisters, Diane and Barbara, on a trip of a lifetime to Hawaii.
Linda is survived by her husband Patrick, two sons Ryan Lobeck of Kingsford and his daughter Madelyn Rose Emmendorfer, and Matthew (Lauren) Lobeck of Green Bay, one sister and brother-in-law Diane and David Faust of Negaunee, two nephews Eric (Chelsey) Faust of Grand Rapids and Daniel (Holly) Faust and their son Everett of Gladstone, her aunt and uncle Joyce and William Waeghe of Gladstone and their daughter, who was like a sister to Linda, Beth (Shayne) White of Munith, MI and her three sons Brendan, Cameron, and Jackson. She also leaves her precious dog Lucy, three sisters-in-law Marsha (John) Fritzinger of Logansville, GA, Janice Lobeck-Ambrose of Ontonagon, and Janet Raymond of Pelkie, MI, and one brother-in-law Allan (Dana) Lobeck of Thailand, and their families.
She was preceded in death by her sister Barbara Marmilick in 2016 and her father and mother-in-law Ardell and Irene Lobeck.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 9-11:30 am C.S.T. at Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 12 noon C.S.T. at St. Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church. Father Paul Nomellini will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.
