ISHPEMING, MI – Betty J. Uitto, age 87, of 700 Poplar St., Ishpeming passed away on Monday November 6, 2017 at the Marquette Co. Medical Care Facility where she had been a resident for the past 4 years. Betty was in the loving care of her family, staff members and U.P. Home Health and Hospice at the time of her passing.

Betty was born March 19, 1930 in Ishpeming the daughter of the late Reino and Selma (Hannula) Besola. She grew up in Ishpeming and was a graduate of the Ishpeming High School, Class of 1948. Betty married the love of her life, Stanley Uitto on September 10, 1955 at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Ishpeming. Betty’s had a 30+ year career with Tupperware and was known by many as the “Tupperware Lady”. She was first a dealer but quickly worked her way to become the first Manager in the Marquette area, a position she held for over 20 years, retiring in 1992.

Betty was a lifelong member of the Bethel Lutheran Church where she had been active with the WELCA group. In her younger years she would enjoy cross country skiing during the winter months.

Survivors include her husband Stanley Uitto of Ishpeming, two daughters – Lori (Steven) Boase of Negaunee and Julie (Todd) Dunn of Marquette, a son David Uitto of Ishpeming, sister Jean (Eugene) Bilkey and brothers Alan (Barbara) Besola, Lee (Gail) Besola all of Ishpeming, sister in law Irma Besola of Spring Valley, IL, 5 grandchildren – Jessica (Jim) Gustitis, Courtney (Michael) Verellen, Rachel Dunn (Terry Harper), Cory Dunn (Megan Ford), and Kimbralyn Lahti, 5 great grandchildren – Kalli, Ava, Ben, Brody and Blake, along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Melvin Besola.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00am until Noon on Saturday November 11, 2017 at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Ishpeming. Memorial services will follow at Noon on Saturday with the Rev. Lauri O. Maki to officiate. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery. A luncheon will follow the services in the church hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Bethel Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 333 E. Ridge St., Ishpeming, MI 49849.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff at the Marquette Co. Medical Care Facility for their tender care provided to Betty for the past four years and especially to Michelle for her kindness and compassion.
