REV. NOEL KROPP

COUNCIL BLUFFS, IA – Rev. Noel R. Kropp, age 77, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, passed away September 8, 2017 at his home due to complications from cancer.

Noel was born December 25, 1939, in Marquette, Mich., to the late Alan and Freada (Forstrom) Kropp. He graduated from Marquette’s Graveraet High School in 1958 and from Northern Michigan University in 1965. Noel married Joan A. Pearson on June 10, 1967, in Marquette. He then attended Lutheran School of Theology in Rock Island, Ill., served his internship in Brainerd, Minn., and graduated from Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago, Ill., in 1969.

Noel was ordained a minister in 1969 at Messiah Lutheran Church in Marquette. He served parishes in Detroit Lakes and Ortonville, Minn., before taking a call to Council Bluffs to serve as chaplain at Bethany Lutheran Home from 1995-2014. He was a member of Saint John Lutheran Church.

In addition to his parents, Noel was preceded in death by an infant daughter; wife, Joan Kropp, in 2012; and his brother, Bruce Kropp.

Noel is survived by his daughters, Sarah (Byron) Almén, of Cedar Park, Texas, Jennifer (Therese Hegarty) Kropp, of Bellevue, Neb.; grandson, Theodore Almén; brother, Gary (Karen) Kropp, of Milwaukee, Wis.

Visitation with the family, Tuesday, 5 to 7 p.m., at Cutler-O’Neill-Meyer- Woodring Bayliss Park chapel. Funeral service, Wednesday, 11 a.m., at Saint John Lutheran Church. A lunch will immediately follow in the parish hall. Graveside service and burial will be held Saturday, 1:00 p.m. in Park Cemetery, Marquette, Mich. A reception will follow at Messiah Lutheran Church. Memorial contributions are suggested to National Public Radio (NPR), Bread for the World or MOHMS Place.
