FREDERICK BOESLER

MARQUETTE, MI – Frederick W. “Ted” Boesler, Jr., age 85, of Marquette, entered eternal life Monday, September 18, 2017, at the Lighthouse of Ishpeming.

Born October 24, 1931, in Houghton, a son of Frederick William and Zoria (Demarse) Boesler, Ted was raised in Marquette and graduated from the John D. Pierce High School. Early on, Ted developed a passion for skating and would have lived on them if possible. At age 16, he began playing hockey with the Marquette Sentinels and continued for ten years. He was 25 when the Sentinels won the Gibson Cup Championship in 1956. One of the most coveted hockey trophies in the Midwest, the Gibson Cup has often been referred to as the Stanley Cup of the North and is the third oldest Hockey Cup in the United States. The team featured many of Marquette’s finest skaters, men who continued to play into the “old timer” leagues. Following graduation from high school, Ted began a 30 year career with the Lake Superior and Ishpeming Railroad as an engineer. He was the quintessential “Yooper Bachelor”, possessing a very unique sense of humor, being an avid Packer, Tiger, and Red Wing fan, while remaining, as his railroad buddies often noted, “always a gentleman.”

Ted is survived by his sister, June Altmann of Marquette; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Vivian M. Poland; brothers-in-law, George Altmann and Warren Poland; and a nephew, Michael Altmann.

Friends may call at the Swanson-Lundquist Funeral Home on Friday, September 22, beginning at 12:00 noon until the time of service at 1:00 pm Friday afternoon. Rev. Leon Jarvis will preside. Interment will be made in the Holy Cross Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Marquette Junior Hockey Program, 401 E. Fair Avenue, Marquette, MI 49855.
