GLORIA BELLOWS

MARQUETTE, MI – Gloria J. Bellows, 85, of Marquette, passed away Sunday morning, August 20, 2017 at the Eastwood Nursing Center in Negaunee where she was a patient a short while.

Gloria was born on November 23, 1931 at Bruce Crossing to the late Harold and Olga (Asikainen) Kopsi. She was a graduate of Paynesville High School and had attended Northern Michigan University.

Gloria was very proud to be the first woman to be employed in the Trades Department at NMU where she worked for many years.

In her free time, she was an avid painter employing both water color and acrylic media. She loved reading, baking, working crossword puzzles and playing scrabble. Gloria and her husband, Jim, often enjoyed camping and meeting new friends in their 5th-wheel.

Her grand- children were everything to her and they affectionately called her “Mummu.”

Gloria was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Skandia.

Survivors include her husband, James Bellows, who she married on September 24, 1979; four children, Sherry (David) Anderson of Marquette, Jerry Popps of Ishpeming, Pete (Brenda) Popps of Bruce Crossing, and Tracey (Bob) Lewis of Marquette; 11 grandchildren, Tiffanie Quayle, Chad (Rachel) Mercure, Sheena Popps, Tanner (Ecko) Popps, Caleb Popps, Amber (Dan) Schmittdiel, Cale (Kim Carlson) Popps, Britnee Lewis, Joe Lewis, Daniel (Lynnette Webber) Popps, and Kory (Kylie Way) Popps; also several great grandchildren, a sister, Rita (Bob) Kirk of Crivitz, WI and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death besides her parents was her first husband, Ora Popps; two sons, Kayo Popps and William Popps; also three siblings, Joyce Cleary, Andy Kopsi and Jerry Kopsi.

Friends may call at the Canale-Tonella Funeral Home on Friday beginning at 11 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 12 Noon in the funeral home with the Rev. Warren Geier officiating. A luncheon will take place in the funeral home immediately following the service. Burial will take place in the Paynesville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Michigan Commission for the Blind, 305 Ludington St., Escanaba, MI 49829.
