Frank A. Sarvello
Frank was born February 4, 1928 in Ishpeming the son of the late Frank and Chiara (Valela) Sarvello. He grew up in Ishpeming and was a graduate of the Ishpeming High School, Class of 1946. Frank then served his country in the United States Army during World War II from Sept of 1946 – Jan. of 1948 and received the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal Japan. He returned to Ishpeming and then went on to Music School in Minneapolis, MN at the MacPhail Conservatory of Music where he studied for 3 1/2 years. Frank furthered his musical studies in Italy spending 2 years in Naples and a year and a half in Rome, returning to Ishpeming in 1957. Frank loved music and played the piano and accordion along with having an amazing voice. Frank was involved with and eventually owned and operated the Royal Bar in Ishpeming from 1957 – 1993, he also worked construction with the Labors and Boilermakers Unions during many of those years.
Frank was a proud Italian and lifelong member of the St. Rocco / St. Anthony Society. He truly loved his family and attended as many of his grandchildren’s events and activities as he could. He passed wearing a shirt that said “La nostra famiglia e un cerchio di sostegno” which means “Our family is a circle of strength.”
He was a member of the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church where he sang with the Church Choir for many years. He was also a member of the Ishpeming VFW and the AMVETS along with a former member of the Piasano Club and the Bartenders Union. He enjoyed playing in the Ishpeming Horseshoe League and trips to the local casino’s.
Survivors include 4 children – Lisa Sarvello and Julie Sarvello of Ishpeming, Thomas (Nancy) Mallett of Three Lakes and Kim (Nancy) Mallett of Ishpeming, a daughter-in-law – Robin Mallett of Ishpeming; sister Rose MacDonald of Midland, sister-in-law June Sarvello of Ishpeming, 10 grandchildren – Michelle (Kirk) McNab, TJ Mallett, Craig (Amy) Mallett, Erin (Brian Helsten) Mallett, Eric (Laurie) Collins, Chad Collins, Kristin (Shawn) Thornton, Paul (Shaylee Kangas) Alto, Chiara (Mitch) Cain and Damian (Halie LeSage) Sarvello; 13 great grandchildren – Myah, Madison, Joseph, Lily, Olivia, Jack, Bryce, Ashlee, Daniel, Kimberley, Brenden, Daven and Sophia Helen; special friends Frank Andriacchi and Gary Kratz, along with several nieces and nephews.
Frank was preceded in death by his wife Helen Sarvello whom he married Oct. 29, 1960, son Terry Mallett, brothers – Bruno, Joe and Salvatore “Tudy” Sarvello, and sisters – Mary Decaire, Cecelia Valente, Marion Lundin and Catherine Lucas.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 11:30am – 1:30pm on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. A Memorial Mass will be Celebrated at 1:30pm on Thursday at St John the Evangelist Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Greg Heikkila to officiate. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery. A luncheon will follow in the K/D Hall at church. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the St. Rocco / St. Anthony Society.
Our family was blessed with having Julie take such wonderful care of Frank so he could grow old and pass away in the comfort of his own home.
