Dr. Roma Jean Mansfield

MINNEAPOLIS, MN – Dr. Roma Jean Mansfield, loving mother and wife, passed away April 27, 2017.

She was born in Lincoln, Nebraska April 2, 1935, the daughter of Hazel and Floyd Miller. Education was very important to Jean and to her family.

Her father was Nebraska State Commissioner of Education.

She graduated from the University of Nebraska and was married to James Mansfield in Lincoln, Nebraska on Father’s Day 1956.

She taught in several Nebraska high schools and one year at the University of Nebraska.

After moving to Marquette, Michigan, she became a professor at Northern Michigan University School of Business for years, retiring after 26 years in 1997.

She was a member of PEO for many years and had served as president in two different chapters. She enjoyed quilting and sewing, especially her daughter’s ice-skating costumes and pajamas for her three grandsons.

She is survived by her husband Jim of 61 years, daughter Cynthia Simmons of Minneapolis, a sister Marilyn Marsh of Omaha and three grandsons- Christopher, Alex and Benjamin.

A private celebration of her life will be observed August 26 at the chapel at Becketwood Cooperative in Minneapolis.
