Barbara Truckey

MARQUETTE, MI / ST. JOHNS, MI – Our beloved sister, aunt, and sister-in-law, Barbara Mae Truckey, passed away peacefully at Hazel Findlay Country Manor in St. Johns, Michigan, on Wednesday, August 16, at the age of 74.

Barbara was born in Marquette, Michigan, January 18, 1943, the youngest of seven children born to Willard and Siiri (Piirto) Truckey. She grew up in Marquette and attended St. John’s Grade School and Bishop Baraga High School. Eventually, she moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin where she spent many years before moving to St. Johns in 2012 to be closer to family. She had a delightful sense of humor and was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Tigers. Barbara experienced many challenges in her life, including cerebral palsy, but faced them with determination and without complaint. She made many friends at Hazel Findlay who, along with her family, loved her dearly and will greatly miss her.

She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Robert Apple of Marquette; her sisters-in-law, Maryrene Truckey of Munising and Ruth Truckey of Sault Ste. Marie; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Thomas Wiseman; her brothers, Bob, Bill, Jack, and George; her sisters-in- law, Dorothy and Sue Truckey; her niece, Betty Truckey; her great niece, Renee Thomas; and her great nephew, Mac McLeod.

Her family is very grateful for the loving care she received at Hazel Findlay and would especially like to thank the Wiseman family, and in particular her very special nurse and advocate, Michelle Wiseman, for their outreach and support these past few years.

Friends may call at the Bishop’s Room located at St. Peter Cathedral on Saturday, August 19, beginning at 9:00 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Cathedral at 10:00 am Saturday morning with Rev. Msgr. Michael Steber, pastor, as celebrant. A reception will follow in Cathedral Hall. Graveside services will be held at the Holy Cross Cemetery on Monday morning, August 21, at 11:00 am.
