Simeon G. Richards


ISHPEMING, MI – Simeon G. Richards, age 86 of 80 Co. Rd. PPL, Ishpeming passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 9, 2017 at the Marquette Co. Medical Care Facility while in the loving presence of his family.

Simeon was born June 6, 1931 in Ishpeming to William Charles and Gertrude Mable (Houseman) Richards. He attended school in National Mine. Simeon married Lois E. Williams on September 15, 1951 and together they raised four children. Simeon worked as an underground miner at the Sherwood Mine for Inland Steel.

Simeon was a member of Faith Luther Church. He enjoyed any type of hunting, especially rabbit hunting with his beagles. Simeon was also a good mechanic and farmer, who raised cattle.

Family was most important to Simeon and he would never miss attending any of his grandchildren’s activities.

Simeon is survived by 2 daughters – Genny (Paul) Parkkonen and Laurie (Eric) Collins, 2 Sons – David (Kathy) Richards and Gary Richards all of Ishpeming, his grandchildren – Tammy (Rick) Larmour, Paula (Cory) Vial, Brian (Cassie) Parkkonen, Joshua Richards, Jacob Richards, Kimberley Collins, Brenden Collins, Daven Collins and Sidney J. Richards, great grandchildren – Elayne, Ansley, Chandler, Averie, Karigan, Keegan, Jagger and Breeley, a brother Sam (Joyce) Richards of Greenwood Location, a special niece Jane Warjonen along with many other nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lois, brothers: Alfred, Frank and Harold Richards, and sisters: Ellen Hendra, Gertrude Mable Hendra, Emily Jandreau and Jeanette Bertucci.

The Richard’s family will greet relatives and friends from 9:30-11:00 AM on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at the Faith Lutheran Church, Co. Rd. 581, Ishpeming where funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM with Rev. William Payne to officiate. A luncheon will follow the service in the church hall.

Pallbearers will be Simeon’s grandchildren. Interment will take place at Northland Chapel Gardens.

Simeon’s family would like to give a special thank you to the 100 wing staff at MCMCF and to Dr. Thomas Huffman for the care given to Simeon.
