Haley Jean “Rona” Van Abel
SANDS TOWNSHIP, MI – Haley Jean “Rona” Van Abel, age 14, passed away Saturday, May 20, 2017, following a tragic accident, doing what she loved to do with her best friend forever, Zoe.
Born May 30, 2002, in Marquette, a daughter of Daryl and Paula (Andresen) Van Abel, Haley was a lifelong area resident and 9th Grade student at Marquette Senior High School. Very photogenic from the beginning, Haley was a delight as she participated in dance during her younger years. Known for her outgoing personality, her laugh, big smile, and baby blue eyes, Haley was very social and enjoyed nothing better than spending time with her family and friends and was very supportive of them. Whether it was a Lakenenland adventure or off road racing, Haley was always happiest when sharing the outdoors with friends and family. She loved camping, hunting, fishing, and the family vacations when they all watched off road racing. She was best friends with her dad, her mom’s “Mini-Me”, and when it came to her brother, she was his number one fan and cheerleader with his participation in football, soccer, and baseball. An animal lover, feline companions, Midnight and Tigger, and canine pals, Chance and Beau were very much a part of her family circle.
Haley is survived by her parents, Daryl and Paula; her brother, Garrett Van Abel; maternal grandmother, Theresa Andresen of Marquette; paternal grandparents, Cyril Van Abel of Big Bay and Jeanne Van Abel of Marquette; her aunts and uncles, Butch (Nancy) Andresen, Linda (Frank) Parker, Brian (Julie Whitney) Andresen, Janet (Gary) Boyer, John (Tracy) Van Abel; numerous cousins, friends, and relatives; and special friends, Zoe, Lilly, Tommi, Loryn, Sofia, Noah, and Hailey Jo.
Haley was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Kenneth Andresen.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the Swanson-Lundquist Funeral Home on Friday, May 26, beginning at 2:00 pm until the time of service at 5:00 pm. Rev. Leon Jarvis will preside.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
