Frank Robert ‘Bob’ Nettleton

WEST BLOOMFIELD, MI – Frank R. “Bob” Nettleton, age 92 of West Bloomfield and Michigamme passed peacefully on December 26, 2016 at the age of 92 with his loving wife by his side.

Bob was born July 19, 1924 in Duluth, MN to Guy and Emma (nee Raisanen) Nettleton. He is survived by his loving-dedicated wife of 68 years Betty Ann (nee Meyer) Nettleton. After graduating from high school he joined the Army Air Force for 3 years. Bob was a retired firefighter with the Detroit Fire Department where he served for 34 years.

Bob and Betty owned and operated the Nettleton’s Cafe and Inn for 5 years. He was a tease and spoke “Finnish” to his Finnish lady customers. Highlights were talking with and serving the many local customers. To Bob, service with a smile always came first.

Bob was always willing to work for the betterment of his life and others, and his sense of humor was contagious. He also always wanted to share with others what he was so blessed to have. Bob lived his life faithfully according to his personal motto “This too shall pass”.

Bob dedicated a lot of his time to the Big Brothers/Little Brothers. He was a member of the Multi Lake Conservation Sportsman Club, Bonita Springs Lions Club, and the Champion Lions Club where he volunteered at various jobs.

Although Bob and Betty had no children of their own, they were always interested in the activities of their friends and neighbors children and proud of their accomplishments.

In Michigamme he enjoyed his cottage located on Lake Michigamme and touring on the pontoon boat. Many hours playing cribbage with Betty and also teaching young and old buddies to play cribbage. He enjoyed spending time with everyone. He enjoyed fishing, watching sporting events with Betty, especially the Detroit Lions and Detroit Tigers.

Pastor Paul Peterson will conduct a graveside service on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at the Michigamme Lakeview Cemetery at 11:30 am. Military honors will be accorded by the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 380.
