Sgt. Justin W. Swajanen


MUNISING, MI — Sgt. Justin W. Swajanen of the United States Marine Corps, age 25, of Munising, died on Thursday, February 16, 2017 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

He was born on September 1, 1991 in Marquette, Michigan to Carol Swajanen. Justin attended school in Munising, Michigan. He enjoyed playing hockey, football, and was a member of the wrestling team. After high school, Justin joined the Marine Corps. He was an outstanding Marine who always led others by example. Justin did a tour in Afghanistan in 2011 and was stationed in Colorado Springs with his family.

Justin is survived by his parents – Carol & Vern Ehle; his brother – Brian Paajanen; his wife – Katie Swajanen; his daughters – Kaylee, Miya & Emma; and all of the family, friends and Marines that will forever remember him.

Justin was an amazing man with a unique sense of humor. He always pushed himself and others to work harder and be better. He enjoyed spending his free time with his daughters or watching movies. Everything Justin had to give, he gave to his family. He will be missed more than he will ever know.

Visitation will be on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at Sion Lutheran Church in Chatham, Michigan. Family time will be from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. Visiting time for the public will be from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Pastor Paul Kelto will conduct Justin’s funeral service at 1:00 p.m. There will be a luncheon and fellowship gathering at the American Legion in Munising following the funeral service. Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, family asks that memorials in Justin’s name be made to the George “Toogs” St.Martin Detachment #550 Marine Corps League of Munising.
