Dagnie ‘Ellen’ Dolkey

ISHPEMING, MI – Dagnie “Ellen” Dolkey, age 87, longtime Ishpeming Twp. resident passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2017 at the Marquette Co. Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming where she had been a resident since this past July.

Ellen was born June 11, 1929 in Watton, MI the daughter of the late Nels and Tynie (Lepola) Salo. She was a graduate of the L’Anse High School. She married the late Clarence Dolkey on August 26, 1950 and she resided in Ishpeming for the past 64 years.

Ellen was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church, Ishpeming V.F.W. Auxillary, and the Eagles in Benson, AZ. She enjoyed bowling, throwing horseshoes, sewing, knitting and crocheting. She enjoyed spending time with her family at camp on the Dead River Basin and going for rides on the houseboat named “Lollipop”. Ellen loved spending her winters in Benson, Arizona for 23 years. She cherished her grandchildren and will be remembered for her sense of humor.

Ellen is survived by two daughters, Cynthia (Joseph) Perry, of Bluffton, OH, and JoAnn (Peter) Vils, of Pulaski, WI, two sons, Gary (Wanda) Dolkey, of Ishpeming, Duane (Marcia) Dolkey, of Munising, a daughter-in-law Lillian Dolkey of Davidson, 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, sister, Clarabeth Dixon of Livonia, brothers – Edsel (Shirley) Salo of Watton and Russell Salo of Ishpeming, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence in 2011, son James in 2015, her parents, grandson Jason Dolkey 1985, sisters – Elsie Longrie, Elvie Antilla, Edna Helenius, Arlene Ryersen and brothers Wesley and Raymond Salo.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 11:00am – 12:00noon on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Ishpeming. Funeral services will follow at 12:00noon on Thursday at the Bethel Lutheran Church with the Rev. Lauri O. Maki to officiate. Interment will take place at Northland Chapel Gardens in Negaunee Twp.
