Sergio Dreon

ESCANABA, MI – Sergio Francis Dreon, 92, of Lane 17.7 Dr., Escanaba and former Negaunee resident, passed away peacefully Sunday, December 4, 2016 at OSF St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba.

Sergio was born September 14, 1924 in Negaunee to Alberto and Maria (Vallier) Dreon, graduated from St. Paul School, Class of 1942, and then joined the United States Army later that year. He proudly served in the Pacific Campaign as a radio operator during World War II. Following his service to his country, Sergio returned to Negaunee to be employed at the Tracy Mine and then at the Empire Mine as an electrician. In 1966 he started his career for the Federal Aviation Administration until his retirement in 1992, ending his career as a Regional Director.

On December 2, 1950 he married Barbara Sjoholm in National Mine. They later made their home in Negaunee before moving to Rockford, IL, Sault Ste. Marie, Green Bay, WI and finally settling in Escanaba. Mr. Dreon was a member of the V.F.W. and the Elks Lodge. After retirement Sergio enjoyed his favorite hobby as an avid Ham Radio Operator and loved spending time with his family and friends at their camp on Bass Lake near Gwinn.

Surviving are his loving wife, Barbara A. Dreon of Escanaba; daughter, Sheila (Bill) Lehouillier of Cornell; as well as nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Louie Dreon.

Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 noon on Thursday, December 8th at Koskey Funeral Home in Negaunee with Monsignor Peter Oberto officiating. Burial will be in the Negaunee Cemetery.

The family will greet relatives and friends for one hour prior to services at the funeral home on Thursday, and also at a luncheon at the St. Paul School gymnasium immediately following services.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that memorial contributions be directed to the family.
