Minetha ‘Midge’ Ruohonen

OSKAR, MI – Minetha “Midge” Ruohonen, 91, a former resident of Oskar and Arbor Green passed away Tuesday afternoon September 27, 2016, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock where she had been a resident patient since January.

She was born on July 8, 1925, in Laurium, MI, a daughter of the late John and Ina (Johnson) Carlson. As a child, she was raised in Boston Location where she attended the Boston School and was a graduate of the Hancock High School with the class of 1943.

On August 30, 1945, she was united in marriage to Hjalmer Francis Ruohonen. The couple had resided in Oskar & Hancock. In 1956, they moved to White Pine where Jumpu worked for the Copper Mine and Midge had worked for Paoli’s Market, the White Pine Credit Union and the Sears Store in Ontonagon.

Once Jumpu retired the couple moved to Houghton to make their home and Midge worked the checkout counter at K-Mart where she could visit with many people. On November 14, 1994, Hjalmer preceded Midge in death.

Mrs. Ruohonen was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and Hope Fellowship Church. She enjoyed making wedding cakes, cooking pasties, bottling pickles and canning berries. She was blessed to always have family and friends stop by the house for coffee and sweets.

Preceding her in death were her husband, her parents, her sister Violet Ristell and her brothers: Roy, Clifford, Ben, Edsel and Reuben.

Surviving are:

Her son: Melvin Ruohonen of Englewood, FL. Her granddaughters: Kelly (Kevin) Singleton of Edgewater, NJ. Christa (Raymond) Boyd Franklin, TN. Her great grandchildren: Sage Sophie Boyd, Jett Boyd and Xander Boyd. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Barbara Bunker and Bruce and Cheryl Carlson always had a special place in Midge’s heart.

A memorial service for Midge will be held 1 pm Tuesday October 4, 2016, at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock with Pastor Paul Marin to officiate. Friends may call on Tuesday October 4, 2016, from 12 noon until time of services at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock.
