MRHC to show Longyear photo package

MARQUETTE — The Marquette Regional History Center presents “21 Pictures — An Outdoor Evening Program Featuring Great Historical Photos from the John M. Longyear Research Library” will take place from 10 to 11 p.m. Aug. 18 in the MRHC Greenspace

Bring lawn chairs and libations for an evening under the stars as Jim Koski shares 21 of the most interesting photos he’s run across from the J.M. Longyear Research Library.

But everyone knows Jim can’t stop at just 21 pictures, he’s really got 68 of them. There are bound to be some great stories.

Senior Day at museum

MARQUETTE — The Marquette Maritime Museum will have Senior Day from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15.

Senior admission is $5 for the museum. Refreshments and scavenger hunt with prizes are planned all day.


Vintage Day event set

HERMANSVILLE — The IXL Historical Museum will host Vintage Day from 12:30-4 p.m. CT Sunday.

Visitors can view a collection of Model T cars along with Hit and Miss engines. Information on trapping and various furs will be on display. A blacksmith will have his forge set up.

There will be a display of vintage quilts and demonstrations of quilting techniques.

New this year is a crafter creating bobbin lace. The walk-in vault on the first floor of the historic office building will be open during the event along with all the other museum buildings. The vault contains a number of antique firearms and a large wooden music box that was made in Switzerland in the mid-1800s. A recording of the music from the music box is available on a CD.

While visitors are inside the three-story office building be sure to check out the variety of collections that will be on display. Organizers will have kitchen themed collections starting with a coffee grinder and vintage coffee cans, items relating to canning with antique jars and accessories along with vintage cook books.

A wooden beer case with a few of the “cone top cans” will be featured along with men’s and women’s hats from the past.

This year there is a fundraising cookie sale in the company house.

Live music will be provided for everyone’s enjoyment. There will be soda and snacks available for purchase.
