Credit union league helps U.P. Honor Flight

The U.P. Chapter of Michigan Credit Union League held its annual charity golf outing on Aug. 23 at the Terrace Bluff Country Club in Gladstone. There were 119 representatives from the Upper Peninsula-area credit unions, including corporate sponsors of the event. Through that, $7,500 was raised to benefit the Upper Peninsula Honor Flight. Honor Flight; and Rick Gatiss, Upper Michigan Community Credit Union.

“The 12th annual charity event was successful in raising $7,500 for the Honor Flight organization,” Gatiss said. “The golf committee decided to financially support the Honor Flight organization again this year because of their steadfast commitment and service to our U.P. veterans. Furthermore, the committee decided to make Honor Flight their primary charitable organization for all future charity golf events.”

In accepting the donation, Knauf said, “This type of financial support is amazing and will definitely help fund future missions. The Upper Peninsula Honor Flight is our way of paying a small tribute to those who gave so much.”

Honor Flight is a nonprofit organization that transports veterans to Washington, D.C., to visit and reflect at various memorials. Top priority is given to the senior veterans – World War II and Korean survivors, along with those other veterans who may be terminally ill.
