More than 40 descendants of Ernest and Ruth (Hoglund Swanson) Oman gathered for a rare Oman-Hoglund family reunion at Bethel Baptist Church in Marquette. They came from as far away as the states of Washington and New Mexico, and from Iowa, Ohio, Wisconsin, and upper and lower Michigan. Ruth Oman, a registered nurse, and her parents, Charles and Helen Hoglund, were among the charter members of the Swedish Baptist Church now known as Bethel. Ernest, who emigrated here from Sweden, was a machinist at Lake Shore Engine Works and the first man from Marquette County drafted to serve in World War I. Ernest and Ruth lived in Marquette and had four daughters: Adeline Todd, Dorothy Patrick, Nancy Holmstrom and Carolyn Ford.
