Michigan Retailers Association gives local student scholarship

MARQUETTE — Eden Langlois, of Marquette, was awarded a Michigan Retailers Association college scholarship for the 2018 academic year.

She is a graduate of Marquette Senior High School and will be a freshman at Northern Michigan University. She is the daughter of Stephanie Zadroga-Langlois and Andy Langlois. Andy co-founded Blackrocks Brewery, an MRA-member business.

Langlois received the Thomas Ungrodt Legacy Scholarship, funded by contributions from Thomas Ungrodt, a board member of MRA.

The $1,500 scholarship is one of 19 funded this year by the Michigan Retailers Foundation, a nonprofit organization established by MRA to benefit member businesses and their employees and families. Recipients were selected by an independent panel based on academic and extracurricular achievement.

Michigan Retailers Association represents nearly 5,000 members and their more than 15,000 stores and websites in Michigan. Retail is directly responsible for more than 850,000 jobs in Michigan’s economy, and one-fourth of Michigan jobs are supported directly and indirectly by retail sales. Eighteen percent of Michigan’s total economic activity comes from retail.
