Westwood students participate in National Leadership Conference

Ten Westwood High School students — Katelyn Anttila, Aili Harmon, Heidi Hinkens, Alina Jones, Madi Koski, Dixie Nicholas, Makenzie Rajala, Kyle Swiedals, Nathan Wisuri and Leah Wisuri — along with their advisors, Ronalyn Arseneau and Sabina Villar, participated in the National Leadership Conference of Business Professionals of America in Dallas, TX, May 8-14. The following students earned national awards, including one national championship:?Leah Wisuri, 1st place, Advanced Word Processing; Aili Harmon, 2nd place, Intermediate Word Processing; 3rd place, Financial Math & Analysis; 9th place, Business Meeting Management; and 10th place, Management, Marketing, Human Resources Concepts; Nathan Wisuri, 5th place, Fundamental Word Processing; Dixie Nicholas, 8th place, Advanced Office Systems & Procedures; Kyle Swiedals, 8th place, Database Applications; Makenzie Rajala, 8th place, Legal Office Procedures. The National Leadership Conference is a culmination of the hard work and effort put in by members throughout the year. It brings students from across the country together to participate, network and compete. Activities included general sessions with keynote speakers, business meetings, leadership workshops, contests, election of national officers, and tours of Dallas sights and attractions. The highlights of the conference included the annual Day of Service volunteer event, with Westwood students participating in the Walk for Special Olympics, helping to raise money to benefit that organization. Approximately 6,000 students, advisors and guests from across the United States participated in Business Professionals of America’s 52nd National Leadership Conference.
