VFW aids Veterans Memorial Wall in Republic

Commander Wayne Shepherd, of the VFW Post 5014 of Republic, hands a check for $1,000 to Sterling Schultz, a Vietnam veteran who began the push for a veterans memorial in Republic. The memorial will include every man and woman from Republic who served in the armed forces in any capacity during all wars, starting with the Spanish-American War to Afghanistan, including the Cold War. Veterans didn’t have to be in country during any particular war, just have served their country. The memorial is coming along nicely, organizers say, with the Holsworth Mudmen doing the work. It is located next to the Heritage Trail and Garden, near the new campground. The veterans are still accepting donations that can be sent to the Ishpeming TruNorth Credit Union in Republic, 279 Kloman Avenue with a note addressed to Republic Veteran’s Memorial.
