Grinsteiner wins contest

For the third year in a row, the Cedar River Bridge Walk Committee went to Peggy Grille, Stephenson Schools’ art teacher, to conduct an art contest among her sixth grade art class for the Bridge Walk T-shirt design. “Getting the area kids involved in designing our Bridge Walk T-shirt was a great idea,” said committee member Scot Fernstrum, an idea credited to committee member Kathie Prestin. “Talking with Mrs. Grille, the kids get excited about the contest, and you can see they really put a lot of time, thought and effort into their entries. It is not an easy task to judge them and pick one winner,” Kathie adds. This year’s Cedar River Bridge Walk T-shirt Design Contest winner, sixth grade Daisy Grinsteiner’s art submission was chosen from a challenging competition. Daisy won a prize of $50 for her winning art entry, and she will lead out the crowd in this year’s Bridge Walk. The 2017 Cedar River Bridge Walk T-shirt is available to purchase at Hirsch’s Cedar River Pub, Cedar River Plaza in Cedar River, Mich., and the Flower Gallery at 426 10th Avenue in Menominee. Purchases of the T-shirt will be available during the Cedar River Bridge Walk event. All proceeds from the T-shirt sales go to the Cedarville Volunteer Fire Department. The Cedar River Bridge Walk takes place Sept. 2, Saturday of Labor Day weekend, instead of Sunday this year. Opening ceremonies will begin at 11 a.m. CST at the South end of the Cedar River Bridge at Hirsch’s Cedar River Pub.
