WHS students qualify for ‘Spread Your Wings’

Twenty-two Westwood High School students competed at the State Leadership Conference of Business Professionals of America March 15-19 in Grand Rapids. Several qualified to attend and compete for national awards at the Business Professionals of America National Leadership Conference, with the theme “Spread Your Wings,” scheduled from May 9-15 in Orlando, Florida. Ten WHS students earned 22 state awards, including eight first place awards, and these 10 students earned the right to compete at the National Leadership Conference in Orlando, Florida, in May. These ten students will join students from across the nation to participate in national level business skills competitions, workshops, and general sessions. The organization’s activities and programs complement classroom instruction by giving students practical experience through application of the skills learned at school. BPA is contributing to the preparation of a world-class workforce through the advancement of leadership, citizenship, academic, and technological skills. The results from the State Leadership Conference are as follows: LUKE WILJANEN, 1st place–Fundamentals of Web Design; 1st place–SQL Database Fundamentals; Silver Medal–Computer Programming Concepts; Bronze Medal–Information Technology Concepts. JARL PETERS, 1st place–Integrated Office Applications; 4th place–Database Applications; Gold Medal–Administrative Support Concepts; Bronze Medal–Business Spelling. KYLE SWIEDALS, 1st place–Fundamental Spreadsheet Applications; 2nd place–Database Applications. LAUREN FARLEY, 1st place–Advanced Office Systems & Procedures; 4th place–Medical Office Procedures. LEAH WISURI, 1st place–Legal Office Procedures; 4th place–Intermediate Word Processing. ALINA JONES, 1st place–Advanced Word Processing.
