Students take part in Legion essay contest

Father Marquette Catholic School eighth grade Social Studies students (Mrs. Jill Koski teacher) recently took part in an America Legion essay contest. Each student wrote a 1,500 word essay on the topic: “How Does Learning about Government and or America Help You to Become a Future Guardian of the Liberties of Our Country?” The students’ writing reflected their viewpoints on how the US Constitution and Bill of Rights make our country great and how we care for our future, and our living and deceased Veterans. Ms. Katriona Voogd (at right) took first place with her piece entitled, “Liberty, History and Government: Our Guide for the Future,” and will advance to the State Level representing Marquette’s Richard Joplin American Legion Auxiliary Unit 44.
