Crash is under investigation

IRON MOUNTAIN — Michigan State Police, Iron Mountain Post, are investigating a three-vehicle personal-injury crash that took place at about 4 p.m. Friday on M-69 at Kime Backlund Road in Breen Township, Dickinson County.

Police said it was determined a vehicle, operated by an 89-year-old Hardwood woman, attempted to cross M-69 in the path of an eastbound vehicle operated by a 62-year-old Washington state man. The driver of the eastbound vehicle was unable to avoid striking the crossing vehicle.

The collision of the two vehicles sent the crossing vehicle into a third stationary vehicle.

The driver of the crossing vehicle was transported to Dickinson County Hospital by Nordic EMS and later transferred to St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay, Wisconsin for further evaluation. Alcohol was not believed to be a factor in the crash.

Assisting at the scene were the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office, Beacon Ambulance, Nordic EMS and the Breen Township Fire Department.
