8-year-old dies in ATV crash
MARINETTE, Wis. — An 8-year-old died from injuries sustained in an ATV accident in the town of Niagara, Wisconsin, Sunday evening.
Rebekah Chapman, the passenger on the four-wheeler, sustained injuries after being thrown from the machine and later died at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital, according to a press release from Marinette County Sheriff Jerry Sauve.
The driver, a 7-year-old girl, was not injured, police said. The victim and driver were not wearing helmets or protective gear, according to the release.
Police said reports of an ATV crash on private property off Panis Road were received at 6:22 p.m. Sunday. Since personal injuries were reported, Niagara Rescue and Beacon Ambulance from Iron Mountain were dispatched, as well as sheriff’s deputies and personnel from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
Investigation at the scene revealed that the four-wheeler crashed into a tree, police said. The crash remains under investigation by the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
