Hancock woman killed in crash
ONTONAGON — A Hancock woman died Sunday as the result of a car accident in which police said speed and alcohol were contributing factors.
The Ontonagon County Sheriff’s Office reported Mandy Kela was traveling north on U.S. 45, 1 mile north of M-26 on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. when she lost control of her vehicle, spinning 180 degrees into the ditch.
The tires of the passenger side of the vehicle dug into the ground, sending it into a barrel roll.
Kela was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown through the driver’s side window. The vehicle rolled over Kela, causing her death.
Her body was transported to Aspirus Ontonagon Hospital by SONCO Ambulance for a medical examination.
Michigan State Police Calumet Post and Rockland Fire Department assisted at the scene.
