ESCANABA–C.J. Byrns of Ishpeming, secretary-treasurer and general manager of the Birds Eye Veneer company at Escanaba, was surprised by employees of the company Saturday evening when he was presented with a number of gifts. At the conclusion of the day’s work, Mr. Byrns was summoned into the shipping department, accompanied by Mrs. Byrns, and they found the 80 employees of the company assembled there. The master of ceremonies presented Mr. Byrns with a beautiful pocketbook, an ink well, gold pen and holder, and a diamond stick pin. Mrs. Byrns was given a mesh bag and toilet set. The presentation came as a complete surprise to Mr. and Mrs. Byrns, who were at the plant to make the annual presentation of Christmas gifts to the workmen. Following a response Mr. Byrns invited the employees into the factory coffee room and gave a turkey to each of the married men and an appropriate gift to the single men.
