ISHPEMING — If the volume of traffic on its first day of business is an indication, Pamida will do quite well in Ishpeming. At about 2:30 p.m. Friday, the day of Pamida’s grand opening, the parking lot and the store on U.S. 41 was filled to overflowing and an inestimable large number of people had already gone through the store. “Actually it’s a little slower now than it was earlier,” said Mark Spengler, the general store manager. “We’ve had police directing traffic and employees parking cars all day.”

MARQUETTE — The Marquette State Prison will be on holiday schedule Thanksgiving Day, with special services and a movie scheduled for the inmates, according to Warden Raymond J. Buchkoe.
Included in the special dinner menu are fruit, coffee, pumpkin pie, cranberry sauce, buttered peas, sage dressing, mashed potatoes and roast turkey. Funds for the “extras” at holiday meals and for entertainment come out of the inmates’ welfare fund. Special church services will be held in the morning.
