MARQUETTE — Work is progressing on the rebuilding of the Bart King monument on Sugarloaf Mountain. A 1922 photo of the monument by former Marquette resident Carl Anderson, shows the original 12 foot height of the structure. Volunteers from the Marquette Kiwanis and Exchange clubs worked Monday night, squaring the top of the stone column and erecting scaffolding. Crews have laid the first course of rocks. All the rocks and construction materials were hauled to the top of the mountain by the service clubs and local Boy Scout troops two weeks ago. The rebuilding process is expected to be completed by mid-July.

ISHPEMING — Because of recent heavy rain throughout the peninsula, all U.P. association games scheduled for yesterday were washed off the board. It was announced last night by Manager Rudy Franson, of the Ishpeming Hematites, that today’s association game with the Marquette Browns was canceled. Inclement weather, which has prevailed during the last week, has made the diamond at Union Park a veritable swamp and even with perfect weather on the bill today, the condition of the baseball field would still be unfit to play on, Mr. Franson said.
