ISHPEMING — Snowmobile rides are part of winter fun, and to prove it, the Moose Country Snowmobile Club, in conjunction with the Ishpeming Retailers Association, will offer free rides Saturday. Getting ready for a test ride on his own snowmobile, Steve Liubakka confered with Paul Bonetti before leaving with his passengers: Kasey Luibakka, 4, and Kara Luibakka, 6. With 25 to 30 snowmobiles on hand, there should be plenty of room for all – including Santa Claus. The rides will be offered from noon to 3 p.m. and will start behind the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home in Ishpeming.

CHATHAM — The Eben Farmers’ Co-operative Store company, a farmers’ co-operative general store enterprise which is operating stores in Eben Junction, Chatham, Gwinn and Munising, announces the opening of their new store building in Chatham on Monday and Tuesday, December 12 and 13. On December 15 of last year, the Eben Co-operative suffered a $20,000 loss when fire of unknown origin destroyed the store building and stocks at Chatham. Since then the Chatham branch has been operating in temporary quarters, pending the erection of a building. The new building at Chatham is up-to-date in every respect. It is a one story tile structure, with a meat department and flour and feed storage room and in one side of the building there is attractive shelving and counters. On the occasion of the opening, Jack Hautaluoma, Chatham branch manager, is arranging to serve lunch to all visitors during the two opening days.
