BARAGA — Not all Baraga Township residents are ready to give a friendly small-town welcome to a 400-bed maximum security state prison. In contrast to a generally favorable attitude toward the state’s other Upper Peninsula prison site in Munising, sentiment in Baraga Township is mixed, said township resident Edward Ekdahl, co-chairman of the Baraga Township Right to Vote Committee. “Everyone was led to believe that all of us would welcome the prison with open arms. And that is not the case in Baraga Township.”
