HARVEY — Who needs a lake or stream when a thunderstorm can create perfect canoeing water? The sudden downpour that hit the Marquette area about mid-day Wednesday provided several Harvey youngsters, Elizabeth Blemberg, 7, Ron Blemberg, 10, Scott Martin, 13, Dana Sutton, 10, and Erik Johnson, 13, a pleasant float trip among towering white pines along West Wright Place. It didn’t take long, however, for the water to soak into the ground and evaporate in the heat to render the craft high and dry.

CHAMPION — The county has awarded a contract to John Keilinen of Ishpeming for the erection of a large bathhouse at Champion beach, one of the upper peninsula’s most popular playground spots. Mr. Kielinen’s bid of $6,050 was the lowest of six submitted by Marquette county contractors. Some of the bids were in excess of $9,000. The new structure, which will have accomodations for 500 bathers, will be built in the shape of a “U” with a frontage of 60 feet. It has been designed that the capacity can be increased without the removal of walls. The Needham Electric company will extend its lines to the beach and the new building will be lighted by electricity and flood lights will illuminate the grounds. The company will obtain its current from the Cliffs Light & Power company.
