MUNISING – Munising Boy Scout Troop 332 recently received the U.S. Forest Service “Touch America Project” service award for building more than 100 wood duck, kestrel, bluebird and squirrel nesting boxes over the past winter. The boxes will be placed in Hiawatha National Forest’s Munising District. The lumber was donated by Cliffs Forest Products with about 20 scouts working on the boxes under supervision of USFS personnel and troop leaders. Munising District ranger Jim Bruce presented award patches to scouts Nick Zuleger, Jason Lindquist, Mark Twardokus and Scoutmaster Harry Lindquist.

MARQUETTE — The class of 1927, numbering 20 students, is the first senior class of the training school of the Northern State Teachers college to have the honor of having the name “John D. Pierce high school” appear on the cards announcing commencement exercises. Graduation will be held at 8:15 o’clock Wednesday evening, June 15, in the college auditorium.

The senior class includes the following: Margaret Billings, Elda Bayliss, Agnes Durboraw, Ruth Briggs, Myrtle Gelina, Ellabeth McCombe, Katherine Watson, Esther Spear, Audry Kinsman, Myrtle Nyquist, Gertrude Kovamaki, John Hill, John Tripp, John Takaluoma, Urho Kiltinen, Elmer Ojala, Robert Haskins, Sherman McNamara, Morgan Nordquist, Linnea Olson.
