MARQUETTE — A delegation of Marquette officials is winging its way to Washington this afternoon to meet with officials involved in the deployment of Stealth bomber squadrons. The trip by the local group is part of a community support effort organized earlier this year by U.S. Rep. Bob Davis R-Gaylord. Davis said the Marquette group is scheduled to meet with Air Force officials and Vice President George Bush on Thursday. Davis announced in January that Sawyer Air Force Base near Gwinn was on the “short list” of possible sites for a Stealth squadron. The highly secret Stealth bomber–or advanced technology bomber as the military calls it–is expected to land an economic package worth $100 million to $150 million to communities where it is based, Davis said.

MARQUETTE — Every other Tuesday afternoon, the corridors of the city hall echo to infantile chortles and squeals, mostly chortles, as mothers bring the babies to the clinic to be examined and scored. Last Tuesday afternoon, babies of various sizes, ages and complexions came to be examined. There were two 100 percent babies–Mary Emma Schmelzer and Jack Theriault.
