ISHPEMING — It’s been a struggle for members of the Ishpeming Ski Club, but with the National Nordic Combined and 70-meter ski jumping tournaments just around the corner, the Suicide Ski Bowl is finally getting in shape. It hasn’t been for lack of effort that the cross-country trails and 70-meter slide have taken have taken so long to prepare, just lack of snow, and few volunteers helping out.
“We wanted to have it ready at Christmas time but, due to a lack of snow this year, it took a lot more time to get snow out of the trees and near the scaffold,” said ski club president Tom Sodergren, who, along with a handful of volunteers, has spent four hours a day at the ski bowl since early this month.
