Missing fisherman’s body found

MARQUETTE — The body of a missing fisherman was found around 7 a.m. Tuesday in Chippewa County after authorities began searching late Monday night, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

Troopers from the Michigan State Police Sault Ste. Marie Post were initially dispatched to an area near Pendills Creek in Bay Mills Township after the 64-year-old Trout Lake man was reported missing by his son around 10:50 p.m. Monday, officials said.

Police said the fisherman may have fallen through the ice, as the area where the man was known to fish was searched and some of his property was located.

With the recovery of the man’s body, the Coast Guard has assumed the role as lead investigating agency. Coast Guard officials said they cannot release the name of the man at this time.
