Woman injured, cited, in crash

CHOCOLAY TOWNSHIP — A Wisconsin woman was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and cited after a two-vehicle accident took place at the intersection of U.S. 41 South and Silver Creek Road around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The 51-year-old Wisconsin woman was driving a Chevrolet Equinox southbound along U.S. 41 South when she ran a red light and collided with a vehicle that was coming off of Silver Creek Road and making a left on to U.S. 41 to go north, according to the Chocolay Township Police Department.

The Wisconsin woman was transported to UP Health System-Marquette for “what is believed to be minor injuries,” police said. The vehicle that was hit was driven by a 19-year-old female from Marquette who was uninjured in the crash, according to police.

The Wisconsin woman was cited for a disregarding red light, officials said. The Chocolay Township Police Department was assisted by the Chocolay Township Fire Department and UP Health System EMS.

The vehicles were removed from the scene by Mr. Wrecker.
