Under This Cold Sky performs

Steve Hooper, the Manistique teacher and singer/songwriter behind Under This Cold Sky, performs in a weeknight concert in Peter White Public Library’s community room Thursday evening. Hooper writes music that pays tribute to both the land and culture of the U.P. His first EP, “Of Iron & Men,” was released in January 2018 and explores the stories and folklore of Marquette County and surrounding areas. The lyrics from the song “Big Two-Hearted River,” the closing track of the EP, were chosen as the winning poem for adults in the 2018 Marquette Art Week Poetry on Third concert. Hooper’s upcoming release “If You Seek a Pleasant Peninsula,” a full-length album celebrating the U.P. and Great Lakes, will be released with a portion of sales benefiting the Superior Watershed Partnership. The event was free of charge thanks to sponsorship by the Carroll Paul Memorial Trust Fund of the Peter White Public Library. (Journal photo by Corey Kelly)
