Trim the Tree event planned

MARQUETTE – The annual Trim the Tree for Special Olympics event will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Dec. 6 at the Holiday Inn of Marquette.

The event raises funds in support of the many sports throughout the year that Special Olympics athletes compete in and enjoy.

Vendors — restaurants and grocery stores –donate an array of foods which are spread, buffet style, and served by the Holiday Inn staff.

A donation at the door provides guests with a registration name tag that decorates a tree displayed in the Holiday Inn lobby for the holidays.

A brief 15-minute program will highlight an outstanding athlete and individual community persons and clubs that have served athletes for many years.

The Trim the Tree event started in 1983. This will be the 36th Trim the Tree gathering in support of Special Olympic athletes.

2018 is also the 50th year Special Olympics International was founded to support the needs of so many special-needs athletes.
