Marquette Climate March held

Above, attendees start their march from the Marquette Commons through downtown and around Mattson Lower Harbor during Marquette’s Climate March Saturday afternoon. The event was held to bring awareness to global issues and a call to action at the local, state and national level. At right, professor Jessica Thompson, coordinator of the NMU Climate Network, briefs attendees on the route they will take during the march. “We are a resourceful community. We can start change right here, we don’t have to wait for policy to take action. We can start to live lighter now,” Thompson said. Musician Mike Waite, who performed at the gathering, is pictured right of Thompson. Saturday’s march was one of thousands of events across the globe that took place in conjunction with the People’s Climate Movement. After the march, attendees were invited to stay for a community festival at the commons with speakers, music and educational information on community-focused environmental activism.
