Woman faces animal cruelty charge

IRONWOOD — Crystal Marie Lotzer, 37, of Ironwood, was lodged in the Gogebic County Jail late Tuesday afternoon on a felony charge of animal cruelty of 10 or more animals and a misdemeanor charge of failure to provide care.

The Gogebic County Sheriff’s Office said that while following up on an investigation, a Gogebic County sheriff’s animal control officer located a large number of animals inside of the Lotzer home that were not being properly cared for.

Lotzer was arraigned Wednesday on the two charges. She remains in jail on a $30,000 bond subject to 10 percent. Four dogs, seven cats, 20 rabbits, two ducks, a raven, a gull and a snake were removed from the interior of the home.

Deputies were assisted by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and personnel from the H.O.P.E. Animal Shelter in providing necessary care.
