MARQUETTE– Holiday Inn of Marquette and the YMCA of Marquette County are partnering together to host the school supply collection event Stuff the Bus.

A Checker Transport school bus will be parked at Holiday Inn, 151 US 41 West in Marquette, at 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 25. Businesses and residents can drop their donations off during the event date. After 6 p.m. the bus will bring all donations to the YMCA where they will be sorted and distributed to kids in need.

“This is very near and dear to my heart. There are so many children out there who don’t have the means to get the supplies they need. They start out the school year behind and this program makes sure that they start off with the right foot and that they have the same supplies as everybody in the class,” said Holiday Inn guest experience champion and event organizer Dee Dee Larson.

Those who wish to participate but cannot drop their supplies off at the Holiday Inn can do so at one of the program’s participating businesses: Jubilee Foods in Ishpeming, The Mining Journal in Marquette, TV3, Range Bank in Negaunee, Harvey and Marquette during their regular business hours. Checker Transport will then pick up and deliver the supplies to the Holiday Inn.

“Checker transport has been a part of the program for several years and they stepped up a little more to do the drop-off for people who can’t get to Marquette,” said Larson.

Holiday Inn is working on other drop-off locations. For more updated information or to make a donation call 906-226-7772, extension 2.

Call by Thursday to schedule a pick-up time on Aug. 20 from Checker Transport. Checker Transport will provide free pedal cruiser rides to those making donations of $5 or more at the Holiday Inn from noon until 3 p.m. Aug. 20.
