Drowning victim ID’d by police
MUNISING — A woman founded floating in Munising Bay Wednesday has been identified as Silvija Ronis, an 81-year-old woman suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.
The Alger County Sheriff’s Office said that at about 12:35 a.m. Wednesday, a 911 call was received from the Alger County Dispatch Center reporting what appeared to be a body floating in Munising Bay. The sheriff’s office, along with members of the Alger County Rescue 21 squad, responded.
The body of the elderly woman was located about 800 feet of the west channel shoreline east of the Munising Tourist Park Campground.
The investigation concluded that Ronis, for unknown reasons, ventured out into Lake Superior sometime after 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The investigation also determined the incident was nothing more than a tragic accident.
