Lunch with the History People held

MARQUETTE — Marquette Regional History Center presents: Lunch with the History People, featuring Dick Lutey on July 26.

Questions about historic buildings, legendary people, “what are those ruins” and on and on will be answered as participants have fun learning more about local history.

Bringa bag lunch at noon June 26 to the History Center to learn from car enthusiast Dick Lutey.

Dick moved to Marquette when he was a young child. He graduated from Graveraet High School and then Northern Michigan University. His addiction to “old cars” began at age 5 when he watched the high school students driving Model T Fords to school. The Ts were available then for $5 to $10. Dick’s first antique car was a 1931 Model A Coupe, when he was 16. His second was a 1923 Model T purchased in 1953 for $5.

His collecting continued for the next 65 years. He found, restored or preserved many interesting early automobiles. His main interest has been the history of cars and car companies from the early 1900s through the 1930s.

As a collector, he has had to sell cars after buying a new one. Through the years, he has owned about 160 vehicles. Currently he owns 15 antique vehicles.
