ISHPEMING — The following Ishpeming band students participated in the recent District Bank Solo and Ensemble Festival in Norway, winning 14 Division I ratings, 12 Division II and two Division III. Eleven students qualified to compete at the State Solo and Ensemble Festival to be held in March. Participating students from Phelps Middle School were: Dan Clark, Henry Seitz, Aaron Broberg, Holly Sterling, Connie Nardi, Kelly Pelto, Lisa Ludholz, Nannette Bell, Tricia Dubord, Don Lovern, Joann Rule, Jennifer Betts, Sueann Palomaki, Tonya Gray, Becca Graybill, Angela Racine, Nancy Longtine, Scott Truscott and Ronald Hendra. Those from Ishpeming High school were: Brad Austin, Wendi Gustafson, Shannon Bath, Lynn Erkkila, Shannon Argall, Phillip Bal, Robert McCoy, Peter Longtine, Kevin Blanck, Sarah Carlson, Becky Bal, Angela Burkhart and Barbara Joki.

MARQUETTE — Northern Michigan College announced today that four February graduates from Marquette County have received special scholastic recognition. Yvonne C. Jacques, daughter of Mrs. Emery E. Jacques, who received her bachelor of arts degree and graduated with distinction, is now employed by WDMJ, “The Mining Journal radio station.” Dennis G. Beltrame, son of Mr. and Mrs. Guelpho Beltrame, received a batchelor of science degree, also with distinction, and is now teaching high school in Oxford, Mich. Blaine Racine, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Racine, who received a bachelor of science degree and graduated with honor, is now teaching in St. Clair Shores, Mich. Robert Bess, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Bess, received a bachelor of science degree with honor, and is teaching mathematics at Hamtramck High School.
