MARQUETTE — Marquette’s telephone office will move to newly remodeled quarters at 148 W. Washington St. this weekend, Michigan Bell Telephone Co. Manager John C. Gerling announced today. The building housed Marquette’s operator switchboards prior to the change to dial telephones in 1955. It was occupied by the company’s plant department until the completion last fall of the new Bell warehouse and garage. New floors, acoustic ceilings and a new heating plant also were installed at a cost of approximately $40,000. Marquette’s telephone office moved to its present leased location at 231 W. Washington St. in 1946. The original telephone building is owned by Michigan Bell, and was constructed by the company in 1900.
