NEGAUNEE — Officials suspect arson in a fire that ravaged the landmark 106-year-old Breitung Hotel in Negaunee early today. While they aren’t certain, Negaunee police and fire officials think a person who entered the building around 1 a.m. may have started the first that completely destroyed the hotel once known as the “showplace” of the Upper Peninsula.

MARQUETTE –Twelve boys under 14 years of age competed in the skating races held at the Palestra as the first night’s feature of the winter sports week program. The boys were divided into two groups, and winners in the first group were Neil Greenleaf, first, and George Gronberg, second. In the second group, first place was won by Lowell Fleury and second by William Nelson. These four boys will be entered in the week’s finals Saturday night.
